FirstEnergy Corp. announced on Wednesday that it expects to lay off 200 people within its headquarters and the headquarters of its competitive subsidiary, FirstEnergy Solutions Corp., both of which are in Akron, The Akron Beacon Journal reports. With a sluggish economy leading to “slow customer load growth” and abundant supply driving down price, the utility said it would conduct an organizational study mainly of its “business development, corporate affairs, human resources, information technology and supply chain departments,” as well as its management employees, to determine how best to reduce its workforce and streamline its activities, the article said.
