Yesterday, the U.S. Commerce Department assigned Chinese solar panel firms with countervailing tariffs ranging from 14.78 percent to 15.97 percent and anti-dumping tariffs ranging from 18.32 to 250 percent, a press release from the International Trade Administration announced. The U.S. International Trade Commission will decide by November 23, 2012, if “solar cells from China materially injure, or threaten material injury to, the domestic industry,” which will determine whether the tariffs will take effect.
